Chair Wall by Logan

Variety of chairs by different artists and designers are displayed on the “Chair Wall” of the 20th-21st Century Design Gallery, K116, on Level 1.

Objective: Students will show an understanding of how identity affects their artwork by creating a drawing of a chair that represents their personal identities.

Think – Take a look around the “Chair Wall,” and begin to gather your thoughts about who may sit in the chair and what we could learn about them. What might we be able to discover about this artist’s identity?

Create – Take 15-20 minutes and create a chair that represents YOU and your identity. What do you want people to know about you? What are the things that make you, YOU. Use color and be creative—it will still have to be a chair! It is something you rely on!

Share – Take 10 minutes to share out ideas with your group. Ideally, every student gets to share their “identity” chair so that we can continue to learn about each other and the students can gain pride in their creations.
