We “Art” the World / Nous Sommes le Monde

Objective: Students will create an animated presentation explaining what art means to community. 

Materials:   

  • Digital camera or cell phone camera 

Introduce: Take students on a guided tour at the Milwaukee Art Museum. We suggest using the Communities and Traditions tour for this lesson. *Schedule time after your tour for students to self-guide and take pictures of artwork in the galleries. 

Ask:  

  •  What is a community? 
  • What can art mean to a community? 

Activity:  

  1. Have students take photos in the galleries of artwork they would like to include in their presentation.  
  1. Students will use Animoto to create a visual display of various works that represent their interpretation of Communities and Traditions.  
  1. Make sure students include title and conclusion slides that reflect their thoughts on Communities and Traditions. 
  1. Through this presentation, students should explain what art can mean to a community.  
  1. Students should keep design in mind when selecting various works of art in the Museum to visually represent and construct their ideas around the theme of world communities.  
  1. Students should arrange the order, music, and words to create a meaningful presentation that evokes emotion.

  • VA:Cr2.3.8a Select, organize, and design images and words to make visually clear and compelling presentations.
