Use a work of art as inspiration for a research project. Choose a group of artworks that fit with your curriculum and allow students to choose one, or have your class work on one piece that you choose.
Have students divide a piece of paper into two columns with the headers “What we can know by looking (and why)” and “Questions that require research.” Students fill out the chart, making sure to back up their observations by describing what is going on in the work of art. You may want to have your students work in groups to complete this activity.
