Objective: Students will describe the setting and the characteristics of the main character using imagery and descriptive language through writing.

Look – Take a brief moment to study the picture at its viewing. Study the colors and shapes the artists use—ask yourself how it makes you feel, or what would life be like if you were that character.

Read – Read the passage under the title and the name of the artists. The setting of the picture may be influenced by the time period, and the era surrounding the artist. Learn what you can about the time period and the artists at hand.

Write – Use the remainder of your time to write 2 paragraphs: One that describes the setting of the “story” of the painting–the time period, the weather, the location, etc. Paragraph two should be a paragraph that describes who this character is in the picture— what they are feeling, how they dress, where they live, etc.

Standards:

  • W.7.3 Create writing that utilizes: Word Choice (including domain specific): use words, phrases, and clauses to create cohesion and clarify the relationships. Use sensory language to describe experiences and events.
