Objective: Students will experience a single work of art for a long period of time to analyze how their perception of that artwork changes.
Materials:
- Printed images of artwork
Introduce: Inspired by an activity from William Crow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Ask:
- What did you fall in love with?
- What bothered you?
- What do you still wonder about?
- What did your family think of the work when you first brought it home, and what do they think of it now?
Activity:
- Give students a printout of a work of art to take home and “live with”—they should hang it up in a place where they will see it every day.
- After a specified amount of time (at least one week), have students reflect on the questions above.
National Standards:
- VA:Re7.2.4a Analyze components in visual imagery that convey messages.
- VA:Re8.1.Ka Interpret art by identifying subject matter and describing relevant details.
