Objective: Students will research the artist to learn about the artist and their medium choices. Students will then integrate art into their research project by creating their own artwork that integrates the qualities of the original piece into their own.
Look: Students will begin by observing the artwork while thinking about the artist’s choice of medium, colors, and other details that may stand out to them. What do wonder or want to know about this piece of art?
Research & Create: Students will research the artist to determine the medium, as well as the style of art that it is as well as other information they can investigate about the artwork. This information will be used to integrate this style into their own recreation or interpretation of the artwork. Students will write a short paragraph about how their research about the artists inspired their choices in their own artpiece.
Share: Students will share their creations by partaking in a gallery walk.
Standards: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.WHST.6-8.7 Conduct short research projects to answer a question (including a self-generated question), drawing on several sources and generating additional related, focused questions that allow for multiple avenues of exploration.
Art & Design: Interpret the formal and expressive qualities in a work of art or design and integrate those qualities into their own work.
