Getting to Know Santiago Calatrava

Objective: Students will learn about the architect Santiago Calatrava. 

Materials:   

  • Paper 
  • Writing utensil 

Introduce: Project an image of the Milwaukee Art Museum. Using a KWL Chart students will write what they already know, what they want to know, and what they learned about Santiago Calatrava.  

Ask:  

  •  What is this building? 
  • What is it for? 
  • What does this building remind you of? 
  • What is an architect? 

Activity:  

  1. Show an image of the Milwaukee Art Museum and explain that the building was designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. 
  2. Have students create a KWL chart and fill in the “Know” and “Want to Know” sections with information about MAM or Santiago Calatrava. 
  3. Show this video.  
  4. Have students finish filling out their KWL Chart with what they learned about Santiago Calatrava. 
  5. Students can compare their charts with peers.
