
Objective: Students will be able to use the piece of art to create a creative writing story, about a paragraph long, using figurative language and descriptive language creating their own background of the silhouette in the painting. The story should include when their story takes place, who is the figure in the painting, what the figure is doing, and why are they doing what they are doing, and where their story takes place.
Look: While looking at this painting, what do you think is happening in the painting? Who is the man? What happened right before? What sticks out to you?
Write: As you look at this painting, what do you think is being captured in this scene? Who is the man? Continue the story from this moment in the painting or what happened leading up to this moment. Be sure to include who, when, where, why, and how. Use your senses to describe what you are observing and feeling.
Share: In pairs, take turns reading your creative writing story to each other. Take turns adding to each other’s creative stories expanding on each other’s ideas.
Standards: W.5.1 Compose reflective, formal, and creative writing which may happen simultaneously or independently, for a variety of high-stakes and low-stakes purposes.
