Create Your Own Eye-Spy

Objective: Students will create their own eye-spy game from a work of art. 

Materials:   

  • Print outs of artworks 
  • Paper 
  • Writing utensil 

Introduce: Talk about the game Eye Spy. Project an image of an artwork and demonstrate how to play the game. Explore our Collection pages to find works of art you’d like to use for this activity. 

Ask:  

  •  What do you see in your artwork? 
  • How many items can you find “hidden” in the artwork? 
  • What vocabulary words can you use? 

Activity:  

  1. Have students choose an artwork from pre-printed images. 
  1. Students will write all of their eye spies on a separate sheet of paper. 
  1. Students can share their activities with classmates to see if they can find all of the objects. 
  1. Share this activity with other classrooms, post it on a bulletin board, or use it as an activity for a family event at school!

  • VA:Re8.1.5a Interpret art by analyzing characteristics of form and structure, contextual information, subject matter, visual elements, and use of media to identify ideas and mood conveyed.
