
Objective: Students will be able to construct a descriptive story that depicts the life or situation of the character “the janitor.” The story will include a well-developed setting and descriptive language that highlights the life of the figure.
Look: As you observe the statue, what kind of world do you imagine him to be living in? What kind of emotions is he displaying? What kind of world/profession do you imagine this character is a part of?
Write: As you explore your imagination, start writing down your thoughts and ideas. Use figurative language to describe the setting and characteristics of the figure. Now, construct a short story that paints a picture of this character you have portrayed in your imagination. Use dialogues, descriptive and figurative language to cast a colorful image of setting and character. Your description must be 1 page in length.
Share: Find a partner and read your story aloud. Step inside your piece of writing. As you read aloud, how does your tone and voice reflect the way you have written your piece? When you have completed this step, ask and give feedback to your partner. What are some things you could improve on and what are some things that you did well?
