Call Me

Objective: Students will describe an artwork using art vocabulary. 

Materials:   

  • Images of selected artworks 

Introduce: Use this activity to practice art vocabulary terms. Review terms and definitions before demonstrating the game.  

Ask:  

  •  What descriptive vocabulary terms can be used? 
  • What is most important to share with your partner? 

Activity:  

  1. Pair students together arranging them back to back. 
  1. One student will have an image of an artwork while the other does not. 
  1. The student with the artwork will use art vocabulary to describe the artwork in as much detail as possible. (2-3minute rounds) 
  1. Reveal the artwork and have pairs discuss what they expected to see versus what is really there. 

National Standards:  

  • VA:Re8.1.6a Interpret art by distinguishing between relevant and non-relevant contextual information and analyzing subject matter, characteristics of form and structure, and use of media to identify ideas and mood conveyed.
