Let’s Get Physical

Objective: Students will collaborate to create a dance inspired by a work of art. 

Materials:   

  • Images of selected artworks 

Introduce: Demonstrate examples of movements inspired by a work of art. 

Ask:  

  •  How can artwork inspire other creative fields? (music, dance, film) 

Activity:  

  1. Project an artwork to the class or hand out selected images to groups of students. (this could also be done in the galleries) 
  1. Arrange students around the selected artworks. 
  1. Have each student create a movement that is inspired by the work of art. 
  1. Repeat the motion as a group after each student shares. 
  1. When each student is finished, perform the entire dance as a class.

  • VA:Cr1.1.2a Brainstorm collaboratively multiple approaches to an art or design problem. 
  • VA:Cr1.1.5a Combine ideas to generate an innovative idea for art-making.
