Strike a Pose

Objective: Students will imitate poses in various artworks and discuss what those poses could mean. 

Materials:   

  • Images of selected artworks 

Introduce: Demonstrate how to “strike a pose”.  

Ask:  

  •  Was it hard or easy to make the motion? 
  • Does this pos tell us anything about how that figure is feeling or what they are thinking? 

Activity:  

  1. Have students choose a person, animal, or even an object in a work of art.  
  2. On the count of three, students stand an strike that figure’s pose.  
  3. Discuss each pose. 

National Standards:  

  • VA:Re8.1.2a Interpret art by identifying the mood suggested by a work of art and describing relevant subject matter and characteristics of form.
