Uncommon Folk: Traditions in American Art

Uncommon Folk: Traditions in American Art on view at the Milwaukee Art Museum January 31, 2014-May 4, 2014. This lively and uncommon exhibition of nearly 600 paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, textiles, furniture, and handcrafted objects highlights the expansive variety to be found in the work of American folk and self-taught artist. These artists have operated largely outside the mainstream art world, creating objects that reflect their communities, histories, and cultural traditions. You will be delighted in unexpected ways by the depth and breadth of the exhibition, drawn from the Museum’s world-renowned collections of folk and self-taught American art, from the earliest days of the Republic to the present day.
